IGBO Landing
In 1803, a group of IGBO captives rose in rebellion, took control of the ship, drowned their captors, and in the process caused the grounding of the ship in Dunbar Creek, Georgia.
They then took their own lives and drowned themselves, refusing to submit to slavery. One of the largest mass suicides of enslaved people. This history site in Georgia is now called The IGBO Landing.
